Deric Ch'ng is originally from Malaysia and has regularly exhibited work there from the age of twenty, including showing at the Penang State Art Gallery and the Pesta open art show, Penang from 1991 to 1998. He also participated in winter exhibitions at Feren Art Gallery, Hull from 2000-2004 and solo show at Redgate Gallery.

In 2006, after graduating as an architect, Deric moved to London. Relocating to the capital allowed him to take a new perspective in his work. Rekindling a freshness and playfulness of that akin to a tourist, enabling him to explore popular scenes and translating them with his own unique personal approach, never losing sight of his Eastern upbringing. His paintings include the London Eye, Westminster Abbey, Tower Bridge, Camden Town, China Town and many other familiar sights.

Derics style is challenging in combining the formality and rigor of his native culture and traditions. His new and often witty observations in London, The Visit are a progression from his previous loose, fluid water colors. As an artist he believes that art is an extension of his soul which permeates from time to time to reflect lifes experiences.

He incorporates a rich medium of colors, and includes layers of montage pieces which form these interesting and unique paintings. Deric uses luxurious, earthy colors, featuring the passionate Red derived from his Eastern background.
