Christopher Ison is a commercial, marketing photographer based in West Sussex.
After 25 years in editorial, shooting hard news, sport, politics, features and royalty in a staff role at The Press Association I went freelance to work with clients including English Heritage, Cunard, P&O Cruises, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and Goodwood, to mention a few. My work has appeared on the covers of, and in, publications around the world.
The image I has contributed to the auction is a recent one, shot at Newhaven in East Sussex at the height of Storm Eunice on the 10th March. Eunice was the first and only red weather warning ever to be issued by the Met Office for the south coast of England. Many images were shot that day while clinging to the clifftop in 100mph winds but this is my personal favourite. The head of a man appears to be emerging from the raging sea as if in a fight with nature itself.
The image is unmanipulated except for basic curves adjustments and absolutely no photoshop retouching. Furthermore, it is also uncropped from the original frame.
When Adam put out a request for submissions to the auction, this seemed the perfect image. To me it represents a fight to survive against the odds.
